Bags of Dead Animals Found

September 16th, 2011

HUNTERS have been dumping bags of animal carcasses next to an RSPCA shelter after rough shooting in nearby farmland.

The farm suggest that the rough shooting is taking place without their consent.  The first bag was found in July this weekend and now is reported to be almost on a weekly basis.

It is thought the hunters are involved in rough shooting where dogs are sent into hedgerows and woodland to drive the vermin towards the shooters.   If this was reported to the police, an investigation could begin into trespass, firearms offences and poaching.

A Rough and Pigeon Shoot Forum

September 9th, 2011

THIS site is for all to explore and share ideas into the world of the rough shoot and the pigeon shoot.  Activities and hobbies with insufficient tangible information and which is often hard to collect and well hidden.  By opening this forum, we’re asking that enthusiasts share their experiences and ideas amongst other enthusiasts.

Pigeon can be shot all year, there is no close season. In general the best time to shoot is when farmers plant spring crops from late February and through March and April.  May can sometimes prove difficult because the birds are usually nesting, so some sites do close in May but the shooting gets very good again between June until the start of October.

A year round hobby offering fresh air, social times, sharpening of one’s eye and all often for the fraction of the price of many organised game shoots. More fun than pot shots at clays, and more affordable than the game shoot.  It offers farmers and landowners an effective means of pest control, and the shooting enthusiast an exhilarating day out.

Remember The Legality

September 4th, 2011

BELOW is a footnote from the RSPCA after a man in the Midlands was taken to court for shooting a wild sparrow hawk near his home.

Ronald Pike, from Shipston-on-Stour, admitted shooting the bird claiming he had taken the action because the bird had killed two of his racing pigeons.

Magistrates fined him £615 for the three offences and ordered him to pay full RSPCA costs of £986.

The charges related to injuring a wild bird, attempting to kill a wild bird and using an air rifle to commit an offence.

“Regardless of whether the bird is a pigeon or bird of prey, the general public must be aware that wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act and you cannot just go about shooting them.

“We are concerned about the number of air gun attacks we are called to deal with and we will continue to campaign for greater controls of such weapons.”

Inspector Ratcliffe also praised the actions and evidence from the witness in this case which he said helped save the sparrowhawk from a lingering and painful death.

Buy me a cup of coffee.
